The Czech New Green Economy Program, which supports energy-efficient home renovations, has temporarily stopped accepting applications for subsidies. The reason was the high level of interest from citizens, which is why the funds allocated for this year have run out faster than planned. Applications that have already been submitted continue to be processed without restrictions, the Czech Ministry of the Environment reported.
Early closure of the program due to high demand
This year, applications began on February 20 and were supposed to last a year. However, the program closed much earlier due to unexpectedly high interest from citizens.
“More and more often, people are not only taking on partial improvements, but are choosing comprehensive renovations. This is the path we must continue to follow. In recent weeks, many more projects have been received, and although we expected that the funds would be enough by the end of the year, we are forced to stop accepting applications now,” explained Environment Minister Petr Hladík of the Christian Democratic Union.
Increased funding for the program
In the new phase from February 2025, the amount of funds for private houses was increased by a quarter to 17.4 billion kroons. For apartment buildings, where support has been in effect continuously since 2023, the allocation gradually increased fivefold to 14.7 billion kroons.
“In total, more than 32 billion kroons have been invested in energy saving in the residential sector in the current calls,” said Hladík. The minister added that funding for next year has already been secured.
Innovation in the 2025 program
This year’s program had two key changes: all applicants are provided with funds in advance, and all insulation projects can be financed with a favorable loan. According to the ministry, citizens’ interest in supporting energy efficiency measures has exceeded expectations. The program is financed mainly from the National Recovery Plan and the Modernization Fund, and next year they plan to attract revenues from the sale of emission permits.
The New Green Economy program has been operating since 2009. During its operation, about 600 thousand households have been supported. Since 2021, almost 55 billion kroons have been invested in household energy savings.
